Retail pouch filling and heat sealing for private-label freeze-dried avocado

Can you launch freeze-dried avocado under your own brand?

Yes, without building your own factory and without betting a year of cash on pouch stock. FruitBuys sources Central Highlands 034 and Booth 7 fruit, has it freeze-dried at a qualified contracted facility and packs it at source in Vietnam into retail pouches printed with your brand. The entry point is 500 kg per SKU, which is 10,000 pouches of 50 g. Digital printing turns your artwork into pouches in 7–10 working days, so your first run tests the market without a warehouse full of printed film. When the line sells through, rotogravure printing in 15–20 working days brings the cost per pouch down for scale. Every pouch is sealed with the product at water activity ≤0.30, so the crisp snap your team approved in the sample is the snap your customer hears on the shelf or after a stay in your Amazon FBA warehouse.

What products are brands building with freeze-dried avocado?

Four lines come up again and again, each with its own cut.

Your productCut that fitsWhat the avocado brings to the pack
Keto snack pouchSlices 5–8 mm or 10×10 mm dices, eaten straight1.5 g net carbs and 83 kcal per 15 g, crisp bite, creamy melt
Healthy trail mix10×10 mm dicesA green-gold piece that stands out among nuts and seeds, with 0.5 g sugar per 15 g
Guacamole or dip mixGranules 2–5 mmRehydrates in cold water to a soft, spreadable base in minutes
Smoothie pack5×5 mm dices or granulesBlends smooth and adds body with 3.9 g fibre per 15 g

The positioning writes itself from the label: one ingredient, avocado, with 3 g sugar and 26 g fibre per 100 g. On a keto or low-sugar shelf, a real fruit with numbers like that is rare. The full profile and the claims it clears are in what freeze-dried avocado nutrition facts give a keto or clean-label product, and doses by application are in how to use freeze-dried avocado.

How small can your first order be?

500 kg per SKU. That is a launch quantity, not a container commitment.

Pouch sizePouches from 500 kg
30 gabout 16,600
50 g10,000
100 g5,000
500 g (food service, club store)1,000

For a new brand, that is enough to fill an online launch, a regional retail listing or a first Amazon listing, and to learn which size and flavour your customers come back for before you commit to volume. Each SKU starts at 500 kg, so a slice snack and a dice trail mix can launch side by side. On a digital-print run, the 500 kg can be split across artwork variants, such as two languages or a launch edition, so one order tests more than one pack.

Digital or rotogravure: which printing should you start with?

Start digital, scale with rotogravure.

  • Digital printing, 7–10 working days. No printing cylinders, so there is no plate cost and no minimum film run beyond your pouch count. Change a claim, add a flavour or fix a translation on the next order without writing off old stock. This is the printing for test launches, seasonal editions and market trials.
  • Rotogravure, 15–20 working days. Engraved cylinders give the lowest cost per pouch once volume is steady, with deep, consistent colour across long runs. This is the printing for a line that has proven itself.

Most brands run their first two or three orders digitally, lock the artwork once the market has spoken, then move the best sellers to rotogravure.

Which retail pouch should you choose?

Both options are packed and sealed at source, so the product never sees open air between the dryer and your customer.

  • Stand-up zipper foil pouch. Full aluminium barrier against light, oxygen and moisture, with a resealable zipper for snacking over several days. This is the pouch for the longest shelf life and for routes through hot warehouses.
  • High-barrier window pouch. A clear window shows the natural green-gold colour of the slices, which is often what sells avocado on the shelf. Design it as a compact front peek-window built into the graphics: big enough for the shopper to see real avocado, small enough that most of the pouch stays light-blocking film, because avocado fat and its green colour keep best out of bright store lighting.

Sizes run 30 g, 50 g, 100 g and 500 g, or the fill weight your concept needs.

How does the crunch survive from dryer to shelf?

By sealing at the point of drying. Freeze-dried avocado leaves the dryer at 2–4% moisture and water activity ≤0.30, dry enough to snap cleanly and to stay microbially stable. Bulk product repacked in another country is opened, weighed and resealed in a second facility, and every opening lets humid air reach the pieces. Packing at source cuts that step out: the pouch your customer opens is the pouch sealed in a dehumidified packing room at source in Vietnam.

Shelf life is planned as 12 months at ≤25 °C, RH ≤60%, and 18–24 months in cool storage at ≤18 °C, RH ≤50%. For a new retail pouch, FruitBuys runs an accelerated shelf-life study on your final pack, so the date you print is backed by your own pouch, film and fill weight. How moisture, light and oxygen are controlled through storage is covered in how freeze-dried avocado stays crisp, green and fresh-tasting through storage.

What does the launch timeline look like?

About eight weeks from brief to pouches ready to ship, with label work running alongside production. Sea or air transit comes on top.

Repeat orders move faster: the artwork and panel are already approved, and a rotogravure run (15–20 working days) can be printed while the next lot is in production.

Each lot carries a retained sample and a batch traceability record that ties your pouch code back to the growing area and production date, which is what your retailer’s quality team will ask to see.

Plain, seasoned or your own line. Most launches start with 100% plain avocado, the cleanest label on the shelf. For a flavoured range, such as sea salt, chilli-lime or a guacamole spice blend, FruitBuys develops a custom dry-seasoning blend with you as an ODM project from the same 500 kg per SKU, and runs the nutrition panel on the finished blend. If your brand already works with a co-packer, the same avocado ships in 1–5 kg bulk bags sized to one batch.

FAQ

What is the minimum order for private label freeze-dried avocado?

500 kg per SKU, which is 10,000 pouches of 50 g or 5,000 pouches of 100 g.

How fast can my branded pouches be printed?

Digital printing takes 7–10 working days and needs no printing cylinders. Rotogravure takes 15–20 working days and gives the lowest cost per pouch at scale.

Which pouch sizes are available?

30 g, 50 g, 100 g and 500 g, or the fill weight your product needs, in stand-up zipper foil pouches or high-barrier window pouches.

Can I see the avocado through the pouch?

Yes, with a high-barrier window pouch. Keep the window small to protect the colour under bright store lighting; the full foil pouch gives the longest shelf life.

Who provides the nutrition numbers for my label?

FruitBuys runs a full nutrition panel on your commercial lot at an independent ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory, in the label format of your market.

What shelf life can I print?

Shelf life is planned as 12 months at ≤25 °C, RH ≤60%, and 18–24 months in cool storage at ≤18 °C, RH ≤50%. FruitBuys runs an accelerated shelf-life study on your final pack to set the printed date.

Can the pouches go straight to an Amazon FBA warehouse?

Yes. Your UPC or FNSKU barcode is printed on each pouch from your artwork, and FruitBuys applies FBA carton and pallet labels to your shipment instructions before the goods leave Vietnam.

Can you make seasoned avocado snacks?

Yes. Alongside 100% plain avocado, FruitBuys develops custom dry-seasoning blends, such as sea salt or chilli-lime, as ODM projects from 500 kg per SKU.
