FruitBuys Vietnam 1280 Delicious Dried Jackfruit Recipes

How do you use dried jackfruit? 8 easy recipes, from granola to smoothies

Use dried jackfruit the way you use dried mango or banana chips: as a sweet, fragrant fruit in breakfasts, snacks, baking and drinks. Ripe jackfruit tastes like banana, mango and pineapple at once, and drying concentrates that flavour. Freeze-dried pieces add crunch; soft-dried pieces add chew; jackfruit powder flavours smoothies and batters. One thing it is not: a meat substitute. That job belongs to young, unripe jackfruit, explained in ripe vs young jackfruit. Buying for a product line? See the bulk buying guide.

Rule of thumb: freeze-dried goes on at the end, soft-dried goes into the bake, powder goes into the liquid.

1. Jackfruit yogurt bowl or cereal topping

The quickest way to use freeze-dried jackfruit.

  1. Spoon 200 g of plain or Greek yogurt into a bowl, or pour cereal and milk.
  2. Add a small handful (10–15 g) of freeze-dried jackfruit pieces or dice just before eating.
  3. Finish with toasted coconut flakes, chopped cashews or a drizzle of honey.

Freeze-dried jackfruit softens in yogurt within 3–5 minutes, which is when it turns soft and juicy, like fresh fruit. Eat it straight away if you want crunch, or wait a few minutes if you want it plump.

2. Jackfruit and coconut granola

  1. Mix 300 g rolled oats, 80 g chopped cashews or almonds, 40 g coconut flakes and a pinch of salt.
  2. Warm 80 ml honey or maple syrup with 60 ml coconut oil, pour over and stir to coat.
  3. Bake on a lined tray at 160 °C for 25–30 minutes, stirring halfway, until golden.
  4. Let it cool completely on the tray, then break it into clusters.
  5. Stir in 60–80 g of freeze-dried jackfruit dice after cooling.

Adding the fruit after baking keeps its colour and crunch; baking it with the oats browns the natural sugar. Store the granola in an airtight jar.

3. Jackfruit smoothie with powder

  1. Blend 250 ml milk or plant milk, 1 frozen banana, 100 g yogurt and 1–2 tablespoons (8–15 g) of freeze-dried jackfruit powder.
  2. Taste and add more powder for a stronger tropical flavour.

Powder gives the full ripe-jackfruit aroma without peeling a whole fruit. For drink brands, a starting inclusion of 3–5% of the drink is the usual pilot dose, with powder milled to 80–100 mesh so it disperses without grit. What to specify for the powder is in freeze-dried jackfruit powder specification.

4. Jackfruit banana bread or muffins

  1. Make your usual banana bread or muffin batter.
  2. Fold in 80–100 g of chopped soft-dried jackfruit per loaf or 12 muffins.
  3. For a stronger flavour, replace 5–10% of the flour with jackfruit powder.
  4. Scatter a few freeze-dried pieces on top after baking, pressed lightly into a glaze.

Soft-dried pieces stay moist and chewy inside the bake. Freeze-dried pieces inside a wet batter turn soft, so use them as a finishing touch instead.

5. Jackfruit chocolate bark

  1. Melt 200 g dark or white chocolate gently.
  2. Let it cool until it is just warm to the touch, below 35 °C, before adding fruit.
  3. Spread on baking paper about 5 mm thick.
  4. Scatter 30–40 g freeze-dried jackfruit pieces, plus pistachios or toasted coconut.
  5. Set in the fridge for 30 minutes and break into shards.

Chocolate seals each piece from the air, so the jackfruit stays crisp inside the bark. Adding fruit to hot chocolate scorches its sugar and dulls the colour.

6. Tropical trail mix

  1. Mix 100 g roasted cashews, 100 g almonds, 50 g coconut chips and 50 g dark chocolate drops.
  2. Add 40–60 g freeze-dried jackfruit pieces.
  3. Keep it in a sealed jar or zip pouch.

Avoid mixing freeze-dried jackfruit with moist ingredients such as soft raisins or sticky dates in the same jar. The dry fruit pulls moisture from them and turns chewy. Commercial mixes solve this by keeping the whole blend dry, below a water activity of 0.35.

7. No-churn jackfruit ice cream

  1. Whip 300 ml cold double cream to soft peaks.
  2. Fold in 200 g sweetened condensed milk and 2–3 tablespoons of jackfruit powder.
  3. Fold through 30 g crushed freeze-dried jackfruit.
  4. Freeze for at least 6 hours.

The powder flavours and colours the base; the crushed pieces give small bursts of fruit. Dairy brands usually start pilots at 4–8% powder.

8. Energy balls and snack bars

  1. Blend 150 g dates, 100 g cashews, 30 g oats and 2 tablespoons jackfruit powder until sticky.
  2. Roll into balls, then roll them in crushed freeze-dried jackfruit or coconut.
  3. Chill and keep in the fridge.

Freeze-dried pieces inside a moist bar soften over a day or two. That is fine for home snacks. Bar manufacturers keep the crunch by coating the pieces in a thin fat layer or lowering the binder’s water activity to 0.35–0.38; the formulation detail is in freeze-dried jackfruit formats for R&D.

How do you keep dried jackfruit crisp after opening?

Freeze-dried jackfruit is about 70% natural sugar by dry weight, so it pulls in moisture fast. Left open in humid air, it turns sticky in about 30 minutes.

  • Reseal the pouch straight away, pressing out the air.
  • Keep the desiccant sachet in the pouch.
  • Store in a cool, dry cupboard, not the fridge door.
  • If pieces go soft, use them in yogurt, smoothies or baking, where softness does not matter.

Sealed, freeze-dried jackfruit keeps 12 months at ≤25 °C and RH ≤60%.

Can you rehydrate dried jackfruit?

Yes. Soak freeze-dried pieces in a little water, juice or coconut milk for 5–10 minutes and they return close to fresh-fruit texture, ready for fruit salads, sticky rice or a quick dessert sauce. Soft-dried pieces plump slightly in warm liquid but stay chewy.

Making a product with dried jackfruit?

The recipes above are the same formats food brands use at scale: freeze-dried pieces as a cereal or granola inclusion, dice in trail mixes and chocolate, powder in drinks, dairy and bakery. At commercial volume, the details that matter change:

FormatFruitBuys specificationTypical use
Whole bulbs40–70 mmRetail snack packs
Pieces15–30 mmTrail mix, chocolate bark, toppings
Dice10 × 10 × 10 mm, or small 5 × 5 × 5 / 6 × 6 × 6 mmCereal, granola, bars, ice cream
Powder60–80 mesh standard, 80–100 mesh for drinks, 100% jackfruit, no carrierSmoothies, beverages, dairy, bakery

All freeze-dried formats ship at ≤4.0% moisture, cut mechanically before freezing so dice stay uniform, and packed in foil bags with a desiccant. FruitBuys supplies them in bulk cartons and as private-label retail pouches from 3,000–5,000 pouches per SKU on digital print, and arranges soft-dried and vacuum-fried jackfruit as OEM programmes. Specifications are on the freeze-dried jackfruit product page and the freeze-dried jackfruit powder product page.

FAQ

How do you eat dried jackfruit?

Straight from the bag as a snack, on yogurt, cereal or oatmeal, in granola and trail mix, in baking, or blended into smoothies as powder.

What does dried jackfruit taste like?

Sweet and tropical, often compared to banana, mango and pineapple together. Freeze-dried jackfruit is light and crisp; soft-dried jackfruit is chewy.

Can dried jackfruit be used as a meat substitute?

No. Dried ripe jackfruit is sweet. Meat-style dishes use young, unripe jackfruit, which is neutral and shreds when cooked.

Can you bake with freeze-dried jackfruit?

Yes, but add it after baking as a topping or use jackfruit powder in the batter. Inside a wet batter, freeze-dried pieces turn soft. Soft-dried jackfruit holds up better in the oven.

How do you make a jackfruit smoothie?

Blend milk, a frozen banana, yogurt and 1–2 tablespoons of freeze-dried jackfruit powder.

Is dried jackfruit gluten-free?

Pure dried jackfruit is a single fruit ingredient with no gluten. Check the pack’s allergen statement for the facility it was packed in.

Is dried jackfruit good for diabetics?

It is concentrated fruit with a high natural sugar content, about 67 g per 100 g for freeze-dried jackfruit, so portion size matters. People managing blood sugar should ask their doctor or dietitian how it fits their diet.

How do you store dried jackfruit?

Sealed, with the desiccant sachet, in a cool, dry place. Freeze-dried jackfruit keeps 12 months at ≤25 °C and RH ≤60%; once opened, reseal it straight away.
